The owners of Athens Medical Massage, Leila and Aaron McAvoy, are a husband and wife massage-therapist-team. They live in rural Athens County with their four children and many animals. With over 25 years of combined massage practice they run the administration of the business and simultaneously work as Massage Therapists within the Center.
Ida Rose Osborne founded Athens Medical Massage during the turn of the century. Through her never-ending dedication, ingenuity and continuous labors she patiently nurtured Athens Medical Massage into the stand-alone massage business within Athens County. With a deeply caring and trained touch, Ida’s healing hands have been laid upon thousands of people over the years. She brings a smile to the face and heart of all. She is a treasure, a master of her work and a solid friend.
When Ida approached Aaron and Leila about taking over her business, she was not thinking only about the day to day aspects of a brick-and-mortar store, she was thinking about her family business and wanted the future owners to cherish the Center as she has. Leila and Aaron are proud to do so.
A massage may include one or a blending of the following techniques depending on the therapist and the needs of the client. This list is only intended to demonstrate some, but not all, of the techniques often used during a massage.
Aaron became licensed in 2003 in Massage Therapy. He went on to receive a degree in Biological Science. He apprenticed over the past decades with many people and continues to do so. As one of the owners of Athens Medical Massage he dedicates himself to the development of his arts.

Katie’s goal as a massage therapist is to help others live without pain. To achieve this, she most often uses deep tissue massage, trigger point therapy and stretching to relieve pain and tension. She finds that many of her clients’ main sources of tension (and origins of pain) are in the neck, back and hips, so these get extra attention. Katie is a grounded realist, who loves the challenge of helping people find relief from chronic pain issues and experience relaxation in their stressful lives.

Aimee is from Humboldt County, California. Her interest in massage started at age 7, when she began giving friends and family members massages and it became apparent that she had a real gift for massage. Aimee originally was interested in pursuing a career in nursing, but she realized that her true calling was more "hands-on." Her previous study of anatomy and physiology was very useful as she entered the massage program at Hocking College, graduating with an Associate of Technical Studies degree, and became a licensed massage therapist. Each client presents Aimee with different needs for the variety of modalities she uses. These include "pin and stretch", muscle energy technique, myofascial release, trigger point therapy, peripheral neuromuscular facilitation, passive and/or active range of motion, and static deep tissue work. When a client presents with a specific complaint, such as sciatic pain or shoulder limitation, she performs an assessment using a variety of musculoskeletal tests to ensure that each client receives the most appropriate therapy for the condition they are experiencing.
